Building on Richie Road

A friend told us about this property that was for sale in 2013. After a lot of walking on that property, we found some good flat building sites. The location was ideal because it was close to Red Mountain. We made an offer for the land and it was accepted.
We arranged to borrow a John Deere 200 to clear the land in late fall. We cut all the deciduous trees, and we were able to sell them to the pulp mill. It became apparent that we could use the excavator to develop the property , dig the foundation , and assist with the build so we bought the machine. In spring 2014, we began to prepare the building site.
We had a concept of what we wanted to build for a young, single guy and a strict budget so he would be able to make mortgage payments. I made some rough drawings of a double car garage with an apartment above. The concept was post and beam, slab on grade, in-floor hot water heat, 16 foot 12x12 posts and beams.
An architectural draftsman took my drawings and refined them to make us a plan for construction. It was now possible to get a building permit and begin the process with engineers to dig and start the foundation. By now, it was August and time for expedience to get the home finished and locked up by winter.
The interior would include exposed beams to which drywall would butt up, a large kitchen with an island, bath with shower, two bedrooms, and a washer/dryer on the main floor.
There are large metal clad wood windows that give views of Red Mountain and the surrounding property. The exposed beams are spectacular and a source of pride when looking at what we built.
